Lovely locks-How I do hair

When I was growing up, I used to wish that I could remove my head and deal with my hair from all angles. So I guess in a weird way, working on the hair for my dolls kind of fulfills that fantasy. Ha ha!

Resemblance?

Anyway, I’d like to share with you, how I apply hair to my dolls.  I’ve figured this out through trial and error and it was a natural progression in my choice of mediums. Feel free to use these techniques if they appeal to you!

First of all, I use wool for bulking out my armature. This was the case, at first because my doll bodies were entirely needle felted. Now that I’ve changed my approach to making the bodies, I still find it useful to continue to use wool. This is because I also use wool for the hair and I find it really simple and easy to use needle felting for creating a hairdo.
The video above shows how I needle felt the curly wool locks directly into the wool body.

This video shows how I needle felt the curly locks into a piece of flat felt. The part I forgot to document is how I glue the felt onto the clay head. **Sorry!**

Here is the finished product...

This post was on the fly so I apologize for the ramshackle technique presentation. I hope you enjoyed it anyway!

Thank you for being here. 💛💛💛
